Coaches

Leslie has been a coach at Newton FSC since 1975 (36 years) and prior to that, 3 years in Northern Manitoba. She is a level 3 Certified coach and Gold CEP Level (Continuing Education Program with Skate Canada). She teaches synchronized skating, freeskate, interpretive, dance, skills, canskate, and starskate.  Leslie was named Coach of the Year for the BC/Yukon Section in 2005 and coached Ice X-treme to 2National Synchronized Skating Medals, gold in 2006 and bronze in 2008.  Leslie teaches 3 days a week at Newton, and the rest of the week with Lower Mainlandland Synchronized Skating Club and Cheam SC in Chilliwack where she resides.

Donna Paul has been a coach at Newton for more than 30 years.  She is a level 3 certified coach and teaches freestyle, dance, skills, PreJunior, and synchro. Donna was named coach of the year for the BC/Yukon section in 2005. Donna is an avid volunteer for several charities and is on the Newton FSC executive.  Her hobbies are gardening and genealogy.

David been instructing skating at all levels since 1991.  He has taught skaters from the beginning Canskate level through Gold test.  His skaters have won BC Championships and have competed at Nationals.  David took some time out from coaching before he got too old to perform in multiple, international ice shows as a Soloist and Dance/Pair skater.  He is also an expert skate sharpener and works for the city as an Icemaker and Arena Operator.  As well as a Newton Club coach, David instructs at several clubs has in the Lower Mainland and is known as an expert dance instructor and partner.

Danalee Harrison has been coaching for 18 years.  She is currently NCCP Level 3 Certified and working on her Level 4 Tasks.  In the last 18 years of coaching, she has been specialized in Synchronized Skating for 13 years, as well as in all disciplines of singles.  Working with skaters of all ages in singles and in Novice and Adult I & II levels in Synchro, her teams compete provincially and nationally.  Currently Danalee coaches for both the Newton Figure Skating Club and Lower Mainland Synchronized Skating Club.  Danalee is married and has two children of her own ages 10 and 13.

Sharon has been a competitive skater in both free skate and synchronized skating for more 20 years, having won 2 National medals in synchronized skating.  She has now changed her focus to coaching and has completed her level 1 certification while coaching at Newton FSC since September of 2008.  She enjoys coaching all skating disciplines and all levels.  Last season, she started an off-ice program and directed the year-end Carnival.
